Frequently asked questions
Can I use a digital parkrun barcode instead of a printed one?
Yes. parkrun accepts barcodes shown on a phone or watch, as long as the scanner can read them. It's still worth carrying your printed barcode or wristband as a backup in case your battery runs out.
How do I add my parkrun barcode to Apple Wallet?
Enter your athlete ID on scanme.run, choose your usual events and tap Add to Apple Wallet. On iPhone the pass opens straight in Wallet. On a computer, scan the QR code with your iPhone camera.
Does it work on Apple Watch?
Yes. Passes added on your iPhone appear on a paired Apple Watch automatically. Apple Watch can't show the classic barcode (Code 128), so it shows a QR code with the same athlete ID instead. The scanning app used at events reads QR codes.
I have an Android phone. Can I use scanme.run?
Yes. Use Save as image or Add to home screen. The offline barcode page works on any phone and can be added to your home screen like an app. Google Wallet support is planned.
Why does my pass appear on my lock screen?
Your pass includes the locations of up to 10 events you choose. When you arrive at one, iOS can suggest the pass on your lock screen so it's one tap away at the finish. You can turn this off in the pass settings in Wallet (Suggest on Lock Screen).
Where do I find my athlete ID?
It's the A followed by numbers printed under your barcode, for example A1234567. It's also in your results emails and on your parkrun profile page. You can paste your profile link and we'll pick the number out.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It's free, and there's no account or sign-up. If you find it useful you can support it on Ko-fi.
Can I make passes for my family or junior parkrunners?
Yes. Make one pass per person and add a name to each so you can tell them apart in Wallet. Switch to junior parkruns when choosing events.
How do I change my events or colours?
Make a new pass with the changes and add it to Wallet, then delete the old one. Your last choices are remembered on your device to make this quick.
What happens to my data?
We don't keep your athlete ID, name or emergency details. They're used to build your pass and deleted within 15 minutes. Your location never leaves your device. We only keep anonymous daily totals, like how many passes were made. See the privacy policy for details.
The pass shows on my iPhone but not my Watch. What can I do?
Make sure your Watch is paired and nearby, then give it a minute to sync. If the pass still doesn't appear, open it on your iPhone, share it to yourself in Messages, and open the message on your Watch to add it there.
Is scanme.run made by parkrun?
No. scanme.run is an independent tool and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to parkrun Limited.
Found this useful?
scanme.run is free and run by one parkrunner. A coffee helps cover the hosting and keeps it free for everyone.
